Inventory Challenges in a Distribution Environment
Topic details: Foodservice distribution is a challenging environment for inventory management. Perishable product and stringent freshness requirements, together with high service level expectations create some interesting challenges. Small excess in inventories can quickly cause high inventory losses and adversely impact the bottom line. Reinhart Foodservice, LLC- the broadline foodservice subsidiary of Reyes Holdings, LLC- has recently made significant gains through a data-driven approach that emphasizes teamwork, accountability and commitment to customers. Inventory losses were successfully reduced and inventories were lowered while improving service levels to customers. The ideas implemented are grounded in supply chain best practices and have wider applicability beyond the foodservice realm.
